Impact of Civilization Building

The image corresponding with this blog entry is of ancient cuneiform script that was used by the Sumerians and other peoples of the Fertile Crescent to keep records, communicate with one another, and express oneself creatively.  In many ways, writing systems were signs of and and tools for building early civilizations.

Please address the following questions...

In addition to writing systems, what were some other characteristics these early civilizations had in common?  Also, how did the lives of people change as they transitioned from a hunting-gathering lifestyle towards living in urban, populated settlements?  What impact did these new civilizations have on the relationship between humans and the environment?

They also had things in common such as their tools and they farmed and other jobs. They developed more jobs and bigger towns and civilizations and they also introduced irrigation. We have learned to use the land and other resources other than hunting and gathering.

Question 1: They had an organized government, specialized jobs, and surplus food.
Question 2: They changed through surplus food. Since there was enough food and they had begun to domesticate animals, it was no longer necessary for everyone to be a common worker. They could develop more specialized jobs.
Question 3: The impact that resulted was that humans did not have to travel as far to find food because they grew food right where they had settled and now lived. They stayed in one place and so gradually adapted to the environment.

#1 The early civilizations were able to become extremely complex due to the ability to do other things than trying to sustain life.
2# As people became civilized, they began speeking different languages, make different food, get different food and other things.
3# The civilizations once they became complex, they affected the land by sometimes doing wonderful things with it or sometimes completely destroying it. Either way, man changed the environment to fit their needs.
